June the 14th 1916  Neilston lost one of the most active and well known young men from the village.

Alexander Robertson Ferguson was the  Secretary  of the village Unionist association and local Charity association, Also the secretary and Treasurer of Neilston Bowling Club and the local curling club, and a member of Neilston South Church.

 Alexander was Husband of Margaret L Ferguson of Barnfauld, luckiefaulds Neilston, Margaret and Alex  were  married only for a short time before Alex went to Egypt in February 1916  with the Forces. 
  Second  Lieutenant 453 Alex Ferguson of the 1st/3rd Scottish horse was accidentally killed in  Egypt  age 32. 

He was the Son of Alexander Robertson Ferguson (Writer and Bank agent) and Mrs Margaret Ferguson of Neilston; Prior to war Young Alexander as Working In A  R Ferguson Grier & Co :                  

         "Remembered with Honour at Kantara War Memorial Cemetery Grave ref C15. Kantara  memorial Egypt and Neilston Cemetery"
